Crocker

Three companies using the Crocker name operated within the three towns simultaneously, presumably leading to some confusion at the time.

A.E. Crocker operated between 1888 and 1893 as brewers’ agents from 28 Bath Street, Plymouth.

Henry Crocker was a wine and spirit merchant operating from 10 Parade, Plymouth between 1878 and 1890

George Crocker & Son operated between 1882 and 1906 from various premises in Cornwall Street, Devonport, this company being the best known to bottle collectors.

Crocker of Devonport was one of the users of ginger beer bottles of the Galtee More Patent type whereby the cork is retained by way of a metal spike through the lip of the bottle. All Crocker’s bottles are scarce with the Galtee More being very rare as the idea never caught on.

It seems that G.Crocker assumed the operations of Herbert Rockett as Codd bottles from both Rockett and G.Crocker bear the Licence Number 564 in their embossing.
