Erricker

The only bottles found from this company are stoneware ginger beer bottles with a distinctive horseshoe pictorial trade mark, there is an intriguing story behind these bottles. The majority of their bottles that are in circulation were allegedly discovered in the 1970s by demolition contractors who found two crates of them boarded up in an old chimney breast. We can but assume that this was a business venture that never got off the ground.

Research has managed to trace only one WG Erricker in the country, William George Erricker was born in March 1859 in Teddington, Middlesex and is listed up to 1891 census as a boot laster at various addresses in London. However, there appears to be no record of him between the 1891 census and the registration of his death in March 1909 in Manchester. We must assume that at some point in this gap, for reasons unknown, he relocated to Plymouth and planned to manufacture ginger beer instead of his previous trade.
