Posada

The Posada Wine Stores at 194 Union St was a well known establishment which operated from around 1880 until it succumbed to German bombers in 1941, many old pictures of Union Street feature the large advertisement on the gable end wall of their building. (The site of this well known landmark now being lost somewhere under the Derry’s Cross roundabout area.) The original operator of the company was John Ellery & Co (also Ellery & Lund) who are mentioned elsewhere in this CD.

A second branch of the Posada Wine Vaults also operated between 1889 and 1895 from 1 Caroline Place, Stonehouse. This branch, having been operated by Ellery & Lund in 1889, is listed as being operated in 1890 and 1895 by Henry Liddiard & Co but, more interestingly, in 1893 it is listed as being operated by Samuel Vosper Junior.

Bottles found are mainly embossed spirit flasks of various types.
