Public Houses

Many of the public houses within the three towns would have sold spirits and the like in bottles embossed with their own details and these are occasionally recovered. Obviously it is impossible to list all the public houses here but the section is included to draw attention to such bottles which include premises such as “Jack Robinson / Post Office Inn / Plymouth” and the example below.

Spirit flask embossed “Martin & Son / Kings Arms / Devonport”

This particular flask can be traced back to the period between 1873 and 1913 when the Kings Arms in Pembroke St, Devonport was being run by John Martin and later James Martin.
