Raymond

The Raymond name has been used in two company names within the three towns, presumably with the Raymond in question being one and the same person.

Raymond & Cox of George Lane, Plymouth (c1888) were soda water manufacturers and amongst the bottles issued by this company were Dobson’s patent Codd bottles (4 circular indentations in marble chamber). These bottles carried an impressive lion & belt pictorial trade mark.

Raymond & Co operated in 1890, presumably at the same address as Raymond & Cox had previously, among the bottles issued by this incarnation of the Raymond name were Rylands Bulb patent Codd bottles (bulbous neck chamber instead of indentations to retain the marble during pouring) and the impressive bulb neck codd – hamilton hybrid.

Bottles from either of these companies are very scarce finds indicating low production volumes at the time.
