Tamar Brewery
The Tamar Brewery in Tamar St, Morice Town has
seen a number of operators who have left their traces in the way of stoneware
flagons.
Thomas Liscombe was operating from the premises
from 1820 and is listed until 1885 (by then as Robert Lavers Liscombe).
The operation of the brewery passed from the
Liscombes to George Crake some time between 1880 and 1885 and he continued
there until around 1919 when it was acquired (along with its 28 pubs) by
Simonds. By 1930 the brewery had 70 pubs
From around 1919 until 1962 the brewery was
run by H&G Simonds Ltd of Reading who had already had a presence in the
three towns since the 1890s.
It was passed into Courage (Western) Ltd in
1962 and continued to brew until 1975
