Voysey

Another Stonehouse based company, Voysey & Co have left little trace of their operations. The recovered items of particular interest was a hoard of Edwards Patent Hamilton bottles which featured a bulbous chamber near its pointed base to facilitate the use of an internal globe stopper (similar principal to the Codd bottle). These items were apparently recovered as a small hoard from a false ceiling in a cellar in South Molton and of around 14 recovered only 3 were identified as Voysey bottles due to their intact paper label, which may hint that few of their bottles were embossed and would be unidentifiable when retrieved from dump sites.

This bottle is both a rare company and a rare patent so is of huge significance, I’m very grateful to Wayne Wood for supplying these photos of the best of the recovered hoard.
